Jason is a Senior Project Engineer who specializes in new construction projects and energy code compliance. He works on a variety of design development and construction field review tasks.
Jason manages RDH’s energy code compliance work in Seattle, which includes permit documentation for a variety of new construction and existing building projects. He also manages new construction projects and assists in the design and development of construction documents. Jason’s experience at RDH includes serving as a project engineer for the rehabilitation and expansion of a high-profile campus for a Fortune 500 company.
Before joining RDH in 2014, Jason worked as an energy analyst and rater in Colorado, where he conducted energy audits of single-family and multifamily residences and conducted third-party residential energy code inspections. While earning his master’s degree, he interned at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

James has over 30 years of industry experience, specializing in condition assessments, design and detail development, and field review on Existing Buildings projects.
As an approved roof inspector with the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia, James has developed expertise in the investigation, design, and field review of complex and specialty roof renewal and replacement projects. Over the years, he has established a multifaceted skill set and familiarity with various trades’ practices, including masonry, carpentry, concrete finishing, painting, and plastering.
As part of an initiative to support the implementation of the BC Step Code, James delivers hands-on airtightness training to builders and contractors. He also shares his knowledge of the building enclosure as an instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
Before joining RDH in 2003, James also worked in the roofing and architectural sheet metal industry and studied zinc-clad installations at the RHEINZINK of Canada training institute.

Alan has over 10 years full-time work experience in the building enclosure consulting industry for both existing and new construction projects. Today Alan is primarily involved with new construction projects and his work generally includes both design review prior to construction and field review during construction. Alan’s new construction projects range from high-rise wood towers to multi-building mall redevelopments and prefabricated modular construction.
Alan’s responsibilities in the field include the review of all enclosure assemblies such as below grade waterproofing and roofing systems, as well as unitized curtain wall and prefabricated walls factory production. In addition to field review, he leads field commissioning testing such as water penetration testing, air leakage testing, thermal imaging reviews, and performance mock-up testing.
Additionally, Alan has assisted the research group with product and material testing, as well as building enclosure rehabilitation projects though all stages including: investigation, design development, and field review.

Bailey is a Building Science Specialist who is recognized for her ability to communicate industry best practices, as well as her ingenuity to apply these practices to buildings throughout the Northwest.
As an author of various leading guides and bulletins, Bailey communicates technical topics to a range of audiences. She has both authored and contributed to numerous industry publications across the United States. One example of her work is the recently published Masonry Systems Guide: Northwest Edition.
Bailey also consults on the design and constructability of New Buildings projects. She regularly performs thermal and hygrothermal analyses of building enclosure systems and advises on energy code compliance and design throughout various project phases.
Bailey also serves as the leader of our Technical Communications team, where she provides guidance and coaching to a number of design and technical staff.

Robin joined RDH in 1998 and began his career as part of the team in Vancouver. He is now responsible for supporting the growth and success of developments in North Vancouver Island.
Robin’s technical skill set, along with his ability to communicate with clients and contractors, has made him an effective project manager. He manages a variety of New Buildings and Existing Buildings projects, and he possesses exceptional expertise in the review and implementation of intricate building enclosure systems.
While working in Vancouver, Robin was involved in the completion of some of the city’s most innovative and ground-breaking buildings at the time, including the Fairmont Pacific Rim and Shangri-La mixed-use towers.
More recently, Robin’s expertise has been shared across a range of unique projects, such as the development of the Nanaimo Passive House.

Tim’s skills have been developed over 20-plus years in the construction industry. He has worked as a building enclosure consultant, a carpenter, and a foreman on single-family dwelling construction projects. He also has extensive experience in concrete construction for both residential and commercial architectural formwork projects.
Tim is a graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and is now an instructor for BCIT’s Architectural and Building Technology certificate. He is relied upon for his experience in applying building science theory to support practical design and construction decisions.

Throughout his time at RDH, he has managed unique projects such as bare-land and mixed-use strata developments with sections and air-space parcel agreements.

As a Senior Energy and Climate Engineer, Eric utilizes his passion for energy modeling and his background in integrated building design to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
With over 10 years of experience, he specializes in the simulation and evaluation of energy efficiency measures and has experience in conducting energy audits and assessing facilities for retrofit potential. He has developed energy efficiency strategies for a variety of projects, including health care facilities, sporting complexes, and commercial and residential buildings that pose energy consumption challenges.
Eric holds multiple certifications, including being an accredited Passive House Certifier and Designer, a LEED Accredited Professional, and an ASHRAE Building Energy Modelling Professional. His ability to provide energy-focused building design solutions makes him an asset to any energy and climate project.

Josh is a Project Manager and Building Science Technologist with a focus on building enclosure repair, renewal, and rehabilitation. His role at RDH typically involves managing and overseeing all elements of a variety of existing building projects.
As a Project Manager, Josh combines his leadership skills with his experience as building enclosure consultant. He is responsible for managing a variety of components of RDH projects, including developing a scope of work, scheduling, budgeting, and liaising with sub-consultants. One of Josh’s strengths is his ability to acknowledge who is required to perform each deliverable and ensure all parties follow through to meet deadlines.
Josh is responsible for managing a range of small to medium size condominium projects, as well as overseeing the Richmond School District portfolio and engaging with all levels of the organization to ensure all building enclosure projects under the Annual Funding Grant (AFG) are a success. Josh is working with the necessary stakeholders to prepare for the 2018-2019 Richmond School District AFG roof renewal projects.

With over 11 years of experience working on major public infrastructure projects, Nicole is well-versed in the best practices for new buildings projects. With a background in civil engineering, she supports RDH Oakland as a Building Enclosure Consultant (EIT).
She uses her technical expertise to analyze design and shop drawings to support the submission of design details. Nicole also runs hygrothermal simulations using a variety of programs, including PHPP, WUFI, THERM, and HOT2000 to conduct further analysis.
Her previous experience as Assistant Project Manager at a Canadian construction services company helps Nicole coordinate and drive successful project delivery. As part of a project team she consistently assesses where value to the client can be prioritized and optimized.

Samuel is a Senior Project Manager and CAD technician with over 11 years of experience in building science. His value and impact are visible in all project phases, whether he’s working on an existing building renovation, restoration, or rehabilitation or the design and build of a new structure. Sam’s expert knowledge includes sheet metal flashing and CAD detailing from years of experience as a CAD Technical Service Area Manager.
Samuel has a wealth of knowledge on the restoration and rehabilitation of all types of buildings including historic buildings. His ability to navigate complex and technically challenging projects alongside his team means the process and experience are more seamless, productive, and efficient from kick-off to construction completion.

Cameron Chorney is a Project Engineer working with the RDH team in Portland. His role at RDH primarily involves work on New Buildings projects as well as building enclosure assessment and investigations of Existing Buildings throughout the country. Cameron is also a member of our Energy & Climate team, providing thermal and hygrothermal analysis of enclosure assemblies, including energy code compliance calculations.
As a Project Engineer, Cameron is charged with provide building enclosure consulting services on a variety of projects. He has supported the design and construction process of buildings across various sectors, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial, and institutional buildings.

As RDH’s Learning and Development Manager, Shawna Cole actively contributes to a productive and satisfying learning environment for RDH employees.
Shawna is responsible for the design, development and implementation of various employee learning and development programs that align with RDH’s corporate strategic goals and operational requirements. She supports the ongoing development needs of the organization and its employees through the tracking and evaluation of learning progress, the assessment of knowledge and skills gaps, and the provision of coaching and additional training interventions.
She excels at identifying the current and future skills requirements, championing change, and creating flexible learning interventions (through digital and other means) to meet the diverse needs of the workforce.
In addition, Shawna teaches Canadian Business Management at Vancouver Community College. She has written two textbooks and is working on a third with Pearson ELT. She is also currently completing her Master’s in Educational Leadership.

Bill has over 20 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry. He applies his industry experience and expertise to a variety of new construction projects including university and hospital campuses, multi-use high-rise structures on the Portland Waterfront, and wood-framed residential projects in the Pacific Northwest as well as many along the Oregon Coast.
Over his career, he has performed detailing of various complex assemblies such as unitized and stick-built curtain wall, window wall, metal panel, precast, and masonry veneers. His responsibilities in the field include review and assessment of all enclosure assemblies, such as below-grade waterproofing, window and wall cladding assemblies, waterproof deck and balcony membranes, and roofing membranes.
Bill has taken a lead role in condition assessment and investigation work, orchestrating and managing all aspects of field work. On the ground, he leads contractors and other RDH staff in collection of information through destructive and non-destructive efforts.
Since joining RDH in the Portland office in 2005, Bill’s mechanical engineering and building science background has been a valuable in-house resource, as he has contributed his HVAC and energy expertise to RDH projects.

She is known throughout British Columbia for her contributions to the province’s leading energy projects. Along with her role as an Energy and Sustainability Specialist, she is the Co-Regional Manager of RDH’s Vancouver office.
Brittany’s goal is to assist clients in improving the energy efficiency of their buildings to realize measurable savings and reduce environmental impacts. Her work includes energy assessments, energy studies, and whole-building energy modeling.
Brittany shares her understanding and expertise at conferences across North America on a variety of topics related to energy consumption and conservation in buildings. Along with an impressive portfolio of Passive House projects, she also led the City of Vancouver’s High-Rise Passive House Feasibility Study.
Brittany started with the company as a co-op student and gained a broad understanding of RDH’s practice areas while on her way to becoming a Principal.

As a Senior Project Manager, Megan has 9 years of work experience on existing, historic and new buildings projects.
She has prepared design documents for existing and historic building rehabilitations. She is experienced in design and construction of new construction wood-framed multifamily developments and high-rise panelized and unitized curtain wall projects. She has performed numerous glazing and façade manufacturing inspections domestically and overseas.
She contributes her knowledge in the industry through presentations and serves as the Past President of the Northern California Chapter of the International Institute of Building Envelope Consultants (IIBEC).
Megan joined RDH Vancouver in 2012 as a co-op student during her undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo. She transferred to the RDH San Francisco Bay Area office in 2016.

As a Project Superintendent with 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, John brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to RDH’s Construction Project Management team. His focus is on coordinating and supervising trade contractors on the behalf of owners for building enclosure rehabilitation projects throughout the BC Lower Mainland.
On-site, John ensures that quality and warranty standards are met while he facilitates communication between the trades, management team, and owners. He has experience working on numerous types of building enclosure systems, including masonry, rainscreen stucco, EIFS, metal panel, exposed concrete, metal roofing, sheet-applied roofing, urethane coatings, and many glazing systems.
John is also responsible for the overall organization of the construction site and the on-site safety of workers in recognition of Workers’ Compensation Board requirements.

Marcus is a Professional Engineer who specializes in finding practical solutions to building enclosure problems. He is one of the three co-founders who established RDH in 1997.
With over 30 years of industry experience and 20 years with RDH, Marcus’ work includes complex project delivery for some of the largest institutions and iconic buildings in North America.
Marcus assisted in a project to study the performance of building enclosure assemblies and details in the high-rise building stock in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. His findings were well received and resulted in an invitation by the Washington State Senate to participate in a task force that brought about substantive changes to the Washington State Condominium Act.
Throughout his career, Marcus has earned a reputation as a knowledgeable and engaging speaker. He has been invited to present for many industry bodies, including the British Columbia Building Envelope Council, the Masonry Contractors Association, and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

Jeremy is a licensed mechanical engineer in RDH’s Seattle office. His primary focus is managing forensic investigations and building enclosure condition assessments (BECA). He also works on public and private housing building enclosure rehabilitations, producing and reviewing the in-house preparation of project specifications and drawings. He also provides expert witness support for litigation projects for public, private, and insurance clients.
Jeremy has more than 20 years of experience in design, testing and analysis, field investigation, and project management. He has worked in building enclosure consulting for 15 years, focusing on condition assessments, forensic investigations, and rehabilitation design of roofing and wall assemblies for numerous building typologies and climate conditions.

Paul has a proven track record during his time directing RDH’s construction management operations in both Seattle and Portland.
He takes a client-first approach that allows him to build positive relationships with building owners and project stakeholders. His responsibilities usually span a project’s entire scope, including managing permitting and entitlements, estimating and reviewing drawings, and evaluating details for constructability.
As a veteran of the construction industry in the Northwest, Paul has built a reputation for selecting and leading design and construction teams to produce projects that meet client expectations and maintain their budgets.
Paul is also a member of the Seattle Building Enclosure Council and the Past Chair of the City of Kirkland Design Review Board.

Andrew is a leading expert on the design and constructability of high-rise building enclosures in new construction. As a Senior Project Manager, he has consulted on numerous types of building enclosures, including unitized and stick-built curtain walls, window walls, precast concrete, masonry, and more. In addition to managing the construction phase on new construction projects, he plays a key role in the design, development, and review of construction documents. He assists owners, developers, architects and contractors in the selection of building enclosure systems to meet water penetration, airtightness, structural adequacy, energy efficiency, cost, constructability and maintenance goals. Andrew has traveled domestically and internationally to review unitized glazing facilities to assist in the performance testing and quality assurance review of new and custom enclosure systems.
In addition to his work on new construction projects, Andrew has provided due diligence review to support client purchases of several high-rise buildings. He also performs condition assessment and leakage investigation services for existing building projects.

With over 10 years with our Existing Buildings team, Jason has risen to the role of Senior Project Manager and Principal. His leadership qualities help him manage a variety of technical staff.
Jason’s experience in the repair, renewal, and rehabilitation of existing buildings has allowed him to develop a strong understanding of the challenges that owners face when it comes to building maintenance.
Jason coordinates with building owners to provide a variety of services, including building enclosure condition assessments that require investigative field testing, coordination of drawings and specifications, preparation of working budgets, and bidding of the work to contractors. He also is involved in producing depreciation reports and communicating recommendations to a variety of building owner groups.
Jason holds positions on both the British Columbia and Ontario Building Envelope Councils.

Robyn is a Building Science Engineer who oversees repair, renewal, and rehabilitation projects on a variety of building enclosures. She brings over a decade of building enclosure consulting experience to the RDH Existing Buildings team.
Robyn has experience managing various aspects of projects such as scope development, budget preparation, cost control, tendering, scheduling, and client relations.
For the past five years, Robyn has managed projects for multiple residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. She also gained experience helping with the design of building enclosures for new construction projects.
Robyn possesses a strong technical understanding of building science principles and the construction process. She regularly utilizes these skills by preparing building enclosure condition assessments, conducting site visits, reviewing shop drawings, and drafting project specifications.
Robyn is a member of the Building Enclosure Advisory Group at Engineers and Geoscientists BC and is a part-time instructor in Project Management at BCIT. In her spare time, Robyn partners with Engineers and Geoscientists BC to promote engineering for students and community groups.

gfinch@rdh.comGraham works across a wide spectrum of RDH’s core practice areas and is directly involved with new buildings projects, existing buildings investigation work, research and product development related to building materials and building enclosures across the world.
He regularly works with industry organizations, building product manufacturers and other clients on product research and development, performance monitoring, forensic investigations, and field testing. He also works closely with architects, developers and manufacturers to support the design of high-performance building enclosures and façade systems. Graham is directly involved with the majority of RDH’s mass timber and high-rise wood building projects and instrumental in leading industry research, risk management, and façade development for these new wood buildings. Graham also oversees many of RDH’s modular building projects and works closely with several modular building manufacturers on worldwide projects including building enclosure research and development as well as factory and field QA/QC improvement programs.
Graham is an industry leader in measuring, evaluating, and modeling of the thermal and hygrothermal performance of building enclosure systems. His master’s degree research and thesis focused on the in-service performance of rainscreen wall assemblies in the Pacific Northwest, and the research has resulted in several publications and practical recommendations for the construction industry.
He is a leader in knowledge sharing and is regularly invited to present at conferences and speaking opportunities around North America on a range of building science topics. He also contributes to the education of the industry through the development and delivery of best practice guidelines and bulletins.
Originally from Vancouver Island, Graham returned to Victoria after working out of the Vancouver office for over a decade.

As a proponent of energy efficient and sustainable design, David works closely with architects to apply these design elements to all of the projects he works on. He regularly performs thermal and hygrothermal analyses on both new and existing building projects, and he helps identify practical solutions to unique problems.
David has more than 12 years of experience in the building science industry on projects located in multiple climates, from the west coast of North America to New England. He was awarded the Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) designation in January 2020.

Harvey’s extensive experience in building enclosure consulting and project management made him an ideal manager for the 2006 development of our Courtenay office. He plays a vital role in the full range of consulting services RDH provides to the north and central regions of Vancouver Island.
Harvey has pursued a career specializing in construction-related services, including positions as a site engineer, structural designer, construction manager, and project manager. With that background as a basis, he began to provide building enclosure engineering services in 1990.
In addition to project management services, Harvey provides services such as condition assessments, building enclosure rehabilitation and renewals, warranty reviews, and litigation support. He has built a strong rapport with building owners, contractors, building officials, and design consultants across North Vancouver Island.
Harvey is a University of British Columbia alumni and has been a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia since 1977.

Tony has been working in the consulting sector of the construction industry since he joined RDH in 1999. He has a strong understanding of building science technology as well as experience in the practical application of this technology.
In 2008, Tony spent one year as a full-time RDH field representative during construction of the Honua Kai Resort in Hawaii.

Sarah is a Building Science Specialist whose passion lies in the sensitive repair of historic buildings. Her portfolio includes an array of iconic buildings, including the Royal Ontario Museum, the Confederation Life Building, and Commerce Court North, all located in Toronto where she has worked for almost 20 years.
Her primary focus is on the evaluation and exterior rehabilitation of existing buildings and their assemblies, with work in the commercial, residential, and institutional sectors. She has worked on the design and construction review of deep energy retrofit projects for older residential towers.
Sarah also contributes to building enclosure design, durability and performance considerations for new building designs and building enclosure commissioning.
After attending the University of Cincinnati to complete her Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, Sarah achieved her Master of Science in historic preservation at the University of Pennsylvania. She has served on the Board of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Association of Preservation Technology, and she also serves as co-chair of APT’s Preservation Engineering Technical Committee. Sarah also teaches building science courses at the University of Toronto.

Eric specializes in façade consulting, including curtain wall and window wall, GFRC and architectural precast, and prefabricated steel stud walls with a variety of claddings.
Eric’s typical responsibilities include design assist, construction field review, and construction administration services for the building enclosure components of new construction projects. Eric works closely with the rest of the RDH team to provide building science recommendations and consulting services.

As a Building Science Engineer, Daniel supports RDH’s core practice areas including New Buildings, Building Science Labs, and Energy & Climate, while also contributing to our Training and Publications services.
Daniel leads our Thermal Simulation team, our in-house group dedicated to analyzing the thermal performance of building enclosure systems and assisting clients in achieving their low energy/high-performance targets. As the lead author of several industry guidelines and standards related to thermal modeling, including the CSA Z5010 Standard and the THERM PH Window Simulation procedure, Daniel is an industry leader in this field.
Prior to joining RDH, Daniel completed a master’s degree in Building Science at the University of Toronto, where his research focused on indoor air quality and occupant comfort.

James works across several groups at RDH, from research and investigation with Building Science Laboratories to building enclosure design and construction field review on our New Buildings team.
James combines his theoretical expertise with a practical approach to solving complex design and construction problems. As a leading member of the RDH Building Science Laboratories team, he regularly works with manufacturers as well as government and industry organizations on product development, materials testing, and industry guidance. He has been the lead author of several of BC Housing’s guideline documents, including the Building Enclosure Design Guide and the BC Energy Step Code Builder Guide.
James also provides field review and testing services on New Buildings projects. He is responsible for reviewing and testing various aspects of the building enclosure systems for high-profile projects in British Columbia, including the University of British Columbia’s Brock Commons.
James completed a co-op term and research project with RDH as part of the completion of his education at the British Columbia Institute of Technology before joining RDH full-time. He is now relied upon as a resource by staff throughout the company.

Brian is recognized as a practical engineer and researcher who delivers innovative solutions. He is one of the three co-founders of RDH and has a unique blend of theoretical and hands-on knowledge gained from completing hundreds of projects across RDH’s various practice areas.
Brian’s experience includes work on both high- and low-rise commercial, institutional, and residential projects in many geographic locations and in virtually all climatic regions in North America.
A key member of any design team, Brian specializes in façade engineering and is regularly involved in the design, testing, and construction of unique and complex building façades. He is often asked by clients to test and review various enclosure systems manufactured around the world.
An engaging and vibrant presenter, Brian regularly speaks at seminars, conferences, and universities on a range of building science topics. As one of the key contributors to the evolution of building enclosure technology in British Columbia, he has led landmark policy, guideline, and research initiatives.

With over 30 years of experience as a site superintendent, Rick has been a key leader in the coordination of projects sites all over the Lower Mainland. His main focus is on the supervision of trade contractors on project sites, quality assurance and design conformity, on-site safety coordination, as well as project planning and scheduling. Working closely with the construction management team at RDH, Rick coordinates and facilitates communication between trades, RDH staff, and owners. Rick has been a site superintendent on a variety of buildings including high-rise towers and large-scale residences throughout the British Columbia Lower Mainland.

Sasha is a Façade Structural Specialist with 30 years of experience working on a wide range of structural systems and building facades. He has provided his expertise on a number of high-profile projects in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Oakland Cathedral and Sutter Hospital.
Sasha is often called upon to review the structural design of complex glazing systems and to provide structural evaluations and assessments of buildings. He also conducts forensic investigations of structural failures and designs solutions for building repairs.
Sasha uses an in-depth understanding of how seismic activity affects the structural integrity of buildings to provide earthquake risk analysis and seismic retrofits to existing buildings. He is a recognized Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Evaluator for the State of California Office of Emergency Services and is designated to perform rapid assessments of building safety in the wake of an emergency.
As well as being a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Sasha is a qualified Structural Engineer (SE) in 20 states throughout the U.S., including California, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada.

Tomasz began his career with RDH as a building science technologist and later moved into his current role as a project superintendent with RDH’s Construction Project Management group.
As a project superintendent, Tomasz is responsible for the overall organization of the construction site. He coordinates the trades, produces and maintains the project schedule, oversees the safety and first aid of the workers, communicates with the owners, and ensures the quality of the work. Since RDH projects typically involve a full or partial building enclosure remediation, projects often require placement of access scaffolding around the building. The work typically involves replacement of claddings, windows, roofs, and decks, and repairs to interior finishes. Tomasz has completed a number of successful building enclosure remediation projects, including Broadway Church and Royal Gardens. He also provides technical support to technologists and on-site staff.
Tomasz completed his Dipl.Tech. in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. He also completed a Diploma in Building Technology at Secondary Construction School in Bialystok, Poland. He continues to develop his technical knowledge and experience as a superintendent and technical specialist.

He is skilled in numerous low carbon technologies, including geothermal energy, smart lighting control, solar power generation, solar thermal, energy recovery, and thermal storage.
Steve was part of the team that recently unveiled Mohawk College’s Joyce Centre for Partnership & Innovation, the largest net-zero building in North America. To add to his lengthy list of achievements, he was presented with the Green Building Champion Award by the Canada Green Building Council in 2014.

Tom King is a Construction Project Manager in the RDH Seattle office. He has over 20 years’ experience in the construction in both North America and the UK. Throughout his career Tom has filled various roles on the construction site including Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman and Carpenter.
As a Construction Project Manager, Tom is responsible for scheduling rehabilitation projects from design through construction completion. His role includes estimating, bidding, budgeting, liaising with designers, contractors, and building owners. He also performs contract administration, oversees construction, and performs project management services.
Tom brings with him a diverse background in the construction industry. He worked as a carpenter before moving into the role of foreman and project manager. He also gained experience operating a remodeling company. His understanding of the various levels of the construction process is an asset to RDH and the clients he works with.

Warren joined RDH when it was founded in 1997 and continues to play a key role in the evolution of the company.
Warren first realized the importance of integrating building science and façade engineering while working in a cold climate. It was evident to him that there was a need to make buildings more durable and energy efficient, which has led to research and development of new approaches to the design and implementation of buildings.
He enjoys working with building owners and other project team members to collaboratively determine creative, yet simple, solutions to help make their buildings better. His depth of knowledge of both RDH’s and industry partners’ services allows him to work with teams to better determine new solutions and achieve project success.

Along with applying his building science focus to assess the relationships between sustainable building, building durability, and building codes, Michael is also the Co-Regional Manager of RDH’s Seattle office.
His past achievements include being a member of the City of Seattle Green Building Team that developed Seattle’s ground-breaking Sustainable Building Policy—the first municipal policy of its kind to adopt the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.

Christy provides leadership and guidance as the Vancouver Island Regional Manager. She oversees staff in both the Victoria and Courtenay offices, and has contributed to projects all over North America.
Her role as a Senior Project Engineer has her exploring and implementing energy- and water-efficient mechanical systems as well as emphasizing the importance of sustainable buildings. She has completed analyses for a range of energy and water conservation projects and researched innovative system design strategies.
In addition to a broad understanding of strategies to improve a building’s performance, Christy brings strong project management and clear communication to her client relationships. She particularly enjoys helping her clients fully understand the financial, functional, and environmental compromises of a range of design strategies, enabling them to make informed choices.
She has conducted numerous research projects for both government and industry associations, including Cost-Benefit Analysis of Super-Efficient New Buildings, a costing study for BC Hydro.

Stephen is the Maintenance and Planning lead in our Victoria office. His role as a Project Manager primarily involves building enclosure investigation and assessment as well as providing technical assistance for the design and construction methods for Existing Buildings projects.
Stephen organizes building enclosure investigations, assessments, and technical reviews of building enclosure renewal. He works to ensure that materials and design specifications are correctly implemented during construction. He also coordinates performance testing of many building enclosure components and assemblies, including roofs, balconies, and windows.
Stephen first worked at RDH during the summer of 2005 while still a student, following the completion of his Diploma of Architectural & Building Engineering Technology he rejoined the company in 2006.

As a Principal and Building Science Specialist working in our Boston office, Lucas is relied upon to provide technical input on a mix of new buildings and existing building projects.
He supports the development of new buildings projects from the conceptual design phase through the end of the project and he provides input on various enclosure systems and construction techniques. In addition, Lucas is a key member of RDH’s building enclosure commissioning group, providing enhanced commission services to healthcare, institutional, and commercial clients.
Lucas also leads existing building projects for a diverse range of clients. These services range from façade ordinance inspection and conditions assessments to full building recladding design.
Beginning his career with RDH in Portland, Lucas quickly became an important contributor to the region’s business development and operations. He joined the Boston office when it was established in 2017 and has played an important role in our progress in the region.

Taylor’s background in architecture and his passion for technology resources put him at the forefront of RDH graphics production, and he has provided contract administration services for new construction and rehabilitation projects. His graphics work includes drafting, modeling, rendering, and layout work for RDH publications.
For existing buildings, Taylor has worked with clients and contractors to develop and coordinate full building enclosure detail sets, façade materials schedules, and materials takeoffs for cost estimates.
On new construction projects, he has worked with architectural design teams to develop and refine building enclosure details and constructability studies and to review submittals construction.

As a Project Consultant, Casey takes pride in sharing his knowledge of various glazing and enclosure systems with architects, developers, and contractors. He has contributed to several recent leading developments in Portland, Oregon, including Adidas N.A. Headquarters and the 250 Taylor office building.
Casey’s wide-ranging experience includes 10 years as a design team leader for a high-end custom glazing and façade manufacturer and holds multiple positions on the National Fenestration Ratings Council. He is often called on to review complicated design elements for projects that incorporate unique cladding and fenestration systems.
Casey has consulted on several mass timber projects, providing invaluable guidance for moisture management of cross laminated timber assemblies. He was significantly involved in the design and construction of Carbon12, currently the tallest wood building in the US.

Joe has over 30 years of construction industry experience in a variety of roles. He provides field review on new construction projects and performs condition assessment and investigations for existing buildings. His review is particularly key in identifying and resolving difficult transitions and interface details as the construction work proceeds. He provides building enclosure commissioning on large industrial projects.
Joe also administers water penetration field testing and adhesion and bond testing of sealants and coatings when performance assessment of different products and systems is necessary.

Kelly is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) with more than 10 years of Health and Safety (H&S) management experience across multiple industries, including Oil and Gas, Mining, and Construction. Since Kelly joined RDH in 2017 as our corporate H&S Manager, her role has evolved and grown to her current position as Corporate Project and Risk Manager.
Kelly remains responsible for the management and continuous improvement of our Corporate H&S Program, with additional responsibilities related to our broader risk program, including insurance and contract management. For the Corporate Project portion of her role and at the request of the Corporate Management Team (CMT), she is also responsible for managing and implementing substantial cross-functional projects and projects that do not fit easily under an existing department or team (e.g., Project Information Management and Knowledge Management). Additionally, Kelly is a resource for RDH’s other project managers to ensure that all necessary cross-functional steps and business process review/re-development tasks have been completed throughout a project’s life cycle.
During Kelly’s time at RDH, she’s led or played a critical role in several initiatives, including implementing our Learning and Development program and our learning management system, updating our intranet site, and overhauling our Occupational Health and Safety program. Each of these initiatives support RDH’s employees and project teams to become more knowledgeable, have access to critical tools and information they need to do their jobs properly, and to ensure our systems are both efficient and compliant.

Rob is a Façade Specialist who provides input on a range of elements related to the design and implementation of façade systems. He is part of our New Buildings team, where he is involved in various façade engineering and procurement projects.
He has gained an in-depth understanding of a variety of glazing technologies. Many manufacturers have utilized his skills to help update their system designs to meet increasing performance requirements and improve the integration with high-performance assemblies.
Rob joined RDH in 1998 and spent a year helping to establish RDH’s presence in Portland when the office opened in 2004.

Sam Packard is a Registered Architect with over 30 years of experience in the building industry.
His areas of expertise include both New Buildings and Existing Buildings with a focus on design, construction administration, and project management for projects ranging from high-rise residences to low-rise educational buildings.
On Existing Building projects, Sam has worked on building enclosure rehabilitations and condition assessments, and he has produced as well as reviewed the in-house preparation of project specifications and drawings. On New Buildings projects, he has reviewed architectural drawings and specification packages for building materials and constructability.

Tiffiny is our Director of Finance and is a Certified Professional Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.
She is responsible for management of the finance department and, alongside her team, oversees day-to-day accounting functions for our offices in both Canada and the United States.
Tiffiny plays a critical role in planning and developing the integration of our enterprise resource planning and business process management systems. Her ability to evaluate and provide insight on significant businesses decisions is an important tool for RDH’s growth.

As a performance-driven and client-focused professional, Joseph is dedicated to employing the principles of building science to improve building enclosures.
He is well-versed in many of the services RDH provides on New Buildings and Existing Buildings projects. He possesses a broad knowledge of industry best practices as prescribed by ASHRAE and ASTM as well as national, state, and local building codes on the performance standards relating to energy efficiency and moisture control.
Joseph holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and completed his master’s in architectural engineering with a structural major.

As one of the three co-founders of RDH, Dave has played a crucial role in the overall direction and focus of the company. He is the past President of RDH and the current Chair of the Board of Directors. His current focus is on providing strategic and technical guidance to RDH’s next generation of leaders.
The breadth of his experience and knowledge makes him a valuable resource to all staff as RDH continues to grow and move forward. Dave has been a key contributor to the evolution of building codes and best practices in BC and across the Pacific Northwest, and he is a respected leader in the building science industry across North America.
He was awarded the Professional Service Award from Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia for his contributions to the industry in resolving the leaky building crisis. Dave has led many landmark policies, guidelines, and research initiatives as well as numerous new buildings, building rehabilitation, and historic building projects.

Michael is responsible for overseeing RDH’s construction services. As manager, Michael is committed to delivering high-quality project management services through our Construction Project Management (CPM) division. For more than 15 years, Michael has helped develop and grow the CPM division in the Lower Mainland and Victoria, emphasizing quality and performance in all areas of work.
He has successfully managed the remediation of many buildings that face complex challenges, including residential buildings, institutional buildings at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, hotels such as the One Wall Centre and the Sheraton Guilford Hotel, plus the unique Broadway Pentecostal Church.
Michael first joined RDH as a Project Coordinator before progressing to become a Senior Project Manager and then assuming the role of Manager of Construction Services. He is committed to growing RDH’s services by ensuring that clients are treated with professionalism.

As the lead of our Vancouver drafting team, Gerry’s focus is primarily on design development and the coordination of construction documentation for building enclosure rehabilitation projects.
Trained as an architect, Gerry brings 20 years of design and detailing experience to rehabilitation and renewal projects. He also assists field staff with the interpretation of design details and with necessary modifications to address as-built conditions.
Gerry gained experience working for architectural firms in Vancouver and Toronto before joining RDH in 2003.

Len Sakuragi is a Building Science Engineer on RDH’s Existing Buildings team. He serves as a project manager on building enclosure rehabilitation, renewal, and repair projects where his work primarily involves the evaluation, design, and rehabilitation of existing buildings and the review of construction mock-ups, shop drawings, and material submittals. He conducts on-site review to ensure that construction is undertaken in general conformance with contract documents and the building code. He is also involved in the forensic investigation of field conditions for litigation support and field testing of enclosure components and assemblies.
Len also supports new building projects. His responsibilities include project management, field review, construction mock-up and shop drawing reviews, and testing. Len has a particular interest in the interactions between building mechanical systems and building enclosures. He is also gaining experience with high-performance and net-zero energy buildings.
Len first joined RDH in 2008 as an Engineer-in-Training. After taking two years to work in Japan, he returned to RDH Vancouver in 2017. Len holds a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certified by Engineers & Geoscientists of BC.

Chris is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Washington and has worked in the field of building enclosure consulting for thirteen years, focusing condition assessments, forensic investigations, and rehabilitation design of building enclosure assemblies for various building types and climate conditions. As a Building Science Specialist, Chris leads teams of engineers and technologists to provide a range of engineering services.
Chris has carried out dozens of building enclosure condition assessments including high-rise, low-rise, commercial, institutional, and residential building types.
On rehabilitation projects, Chris leads the design efforts and oversees production of construction documents for permitting and contractor pricing, coordinates bidding, performs construction administration, field reviews and ensures that construction is undertaken in conformance with the contract documents. As an experienced project manager, Chris is continually forming collaborative and effective relationships with clients, contractors and his colleagues.
Chris has led investigation efforts and provided litigation support on numerous construction defect claims.
In addition to his rehabilitation project contributions, Chris also performs design review, construction administration, and field review for new construction projects, as well as leak investigations and failure analysis of building enclosure assemblies and products.

As part of Canada’s circle of highly experienced Passive House professionals, Marine leads RDH’s Passive House consulting services on the East Coast of the US and Canada, focusing on the delivery of large-scale institutional and mixed-use projects. Driven to make a positive impact with every project, she uses her passion and expertise to drive change in the industry to face the climate emergency.
Marine became a Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD) in 2013 and a Passive House Certifier in 2019. In 2022, she was awarded the PHPP Expert seal.
Marine has consulted on and led a variety of new-build and retrofit Passive House projects, from deep energy retrofits to large-scale, new-build, mixed-use buildings. Her goal is to deliver high-performance buildings at scale more affordably and efficiently across different sectors. She uses an integrated design approach to enclosure, mechanical system, and energy performance design to guide the team toward optimized design solutions.
Marine has extensive experience in supporting the delivery of high-performance buildings in both Europe and Canada and has led design and site teams unfamiliar with Passive House toward certification. Her work extends to assisting with new industry-leading developments such as designing high-performance commercial kitchens for projects with the University of Toronto and the University of Victoria Student Residence.
In addition to her consulting work, Marine is dedicated to educating the industry about high-performance building practices. She has been serving as a trainer in the Passive House community in the United Kingdom and Canada since 2013. She also supports various levels of government in implementing policies, including the City of Toronto’s Zero Emissions Buildings Framework. She serves on the International Passive House Conference’s technical advisory committee, led by the Passive House Institute.
Before moving to Canada, Marine was a Principal at one of the pioneering Passive House firms in England.

Dr. David Schnerch is a building science specialist and structural engineer, bringing over 20 years of consulting and research experience to RDH. He also performs peer reviews, pre-purchase inspections, capital reserve studies, and litigation consulting services for contractors, building owners, and other parties.

Chris Schumacher | M.A.Sc.

Chris is recognized as an expert in the field of building monitoring as well as enclosure and building systems testing. Chris’s formal education in architecture and engineering is balanced by two decades of building enclosure design and testing experience.
Chris oversees much of the work done through RDH Building Science Laboratories, and he regularly consults on the development of experimental test programs for academic institutions, building product manufacturers, and government agencies.
Examples of Chris’s research work include the Thermal Metric Project, a multiyear investigation of thermal performance in full-scale wall assemblies; and the development of an apparatus and test method that measures dense-pack airflow resistance to support the development of the Building Performance Institute’s test standard BPI-103 and material standard BPI-102.
Before joining RDH, Chris was a founding principal of Building Science Consulting Inc. and a founding partner of Balanced Solutions Inc., an innovative Canadian building science RD&D consultancy.

Colin has a broad knowledge of building construction and applies building science principles to analyze and design durable, energy-efficient building enclosures. He shares his experience by regularly speaking about topics related to building enclosures at events across the United States and contributes to industry organizations with the aim of making buildings better.
Colin began his career with RDH in Vancouver before transferring to the San Francisco Bay Area and now plays a key role as part of the leadership team for our California operations.
Jonathan Smegal | M.A.Sc.

Based in Waterloo, Jonathan is an important part of our Building Science Laboratories team. He regularly leads laboratory research, forensic analysis of building failures, hygrothermal modeling, and field monitoring of building enclosure performance.
A trusted resource, Jonathan has managed more than a dozen full-scale field tests of wall and roof performance in various locations throughout North America. He has also been involved with numerous new construction site audits for residential and commercial construction, from the design phase through to the final walk-through.
In 2007, Jonathan completed his master’s thesis on Drainage in Small Cavities in Wall Systems as part of the Building Engineering Group at the University of Waterloo. This research has been published in various forms, and he presented it at the Alaska Building Science Network conference and the 11th Canadian Conference on Building Science and Technology.

Tammy has ten years of professional experience as a project manager and engineer including investigation, design and construction administration of existing building envelopes and historic structures. Her experience in new construction includes modular construction and mass timber construction along with other traditional building types.
In previous employment, Tammy provided litigation support services for projects within the San Francisco Bay area through investigative fieldwork. She joined the Oakland RDH office in January 2015, and her experience in the field, coupled with her background in Civil Engineering Project Management and Materials Science, is a great asset to RDH.

Kyle leads our New Buildings group, and is the Co-Regional Manager of the Seattle office.
A proponent of quality assurance and client satisfaction, Kyle is sought out by developers and architects to assess the practicality and performance of their concepts. On both the West and East Coasts of North America, he consults on energy code compliance and energy retrofit services.
Kyle is also a member of the Seattle Building Envelope Council.

An experienced professional, Kathleen leads our Maintenance and Planning group out of the Portland office. She possesses a diverse range of skills in the application of building science technologies, building asset management, and contract administration services for Existing Buildings.
Kathleen takes a client-first approach to build positive relationships with building owners and Owner Associations. She works to provide support for owners of existing buildings ranging from problem solving through maintenance and reserve planning as well as repair needs. Her responsibilities span a project’s entire scope, including planning, repair solutions, estimating, and project implementation.
Kathleen began her career with RDH in Vancouver and joined the Portland team in 2006. She provides support to the condominium community in Portland by providing education opportunities to clients and manager groups, working as part of the local CAI Education Committee and being a member of the Building Envelope Council of Oregon.

A prominent figure throughout North America, Dr. Straube is an influential and driving force in the industry. Well-known in a variety of building science and research circles, he helps guide the direction of RDH and is seen as a mentor to all levels of staff.
He has broad experience in the building industry and is considered an international expert, having been involved in the design, construction, repair, and restoration of buildings in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Dr. Straube is also known for his academic contributions as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and the School of Architecture at the University of Waterloo, where he teaches courses in structural design, material science, and building science to both disciplines.

She has managed multi-disciplinary design teams on projects ranging between $30m -$50m.
As an architectural design professional with training in manufacturing, Shu has a passion for engaging across different work cultures to solve complex challenges. An important member of the Existing Buildings group, Ed combines his background of structural engineering with building science to provide technically sound and innovative solutions for building enclosure rehabilitation projects. While focusing primarily on building enclosure services. He is an in-house resource for both our clients and staff when it comes to making informed design decisions relevant to the building enclosure.
In addition to his structural background, Ed has over 15 years of experience with building envelope assessment, design, and rehabilitation with a focus on high-rise buildings. His projects have included full and targeted enclosure renewals, glazing replacements, roof renewals, and historic building preservation.
Ed has also provided forensic and investigation services for a variety of clients in the insurance and legal industry for construction projects of various types.
Prior to completing his engineering degree, Ed completed his diploma of technology in civil and structural engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

As a Senior Project Consultant, Tony Thompson is an expert in new construction design team coordination and construction management for commercial, institutional, and large multi-use residential projects. He is also actively involved in all aspects of renewal and rehabilitation projects.
With over 25 years of experience in the building industry, Tony lends the knowledge he has acquired and provides mentorship, guidance, and coaching to junior staff at RDH.
Tony is a Level 1 Infrared Professional Thermographer and is involved in the coordination of whole-building air leakage testing in large buildings. Prior to joining RDH in 2011, Tony worked on building airtightness requirements and building air leakage protocols for the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Jonathan’s primary responsibilities include providing structural analysis for a variety of facade systems including glazing and cladding assemblies. He is experienced designing window wall, curtain wall, and point-supported glazing systems in Canada and the US.
His technical abilities also extend to analysis of facades with complex geometry including curved glass and perforated aluminum panels with the use of finite element analysis and computer modelling.
Along with his technical ability, Jonathan also supports the team as a project manger. He regularly performs site visits, develops schedules, and communicates with clients.
Before joining RDH in 2018, Jonathan worked for a point-supported glazing hardware manufacturer gaining experience on a wide range of projects including mass light rail transit systems.

As a Passive House Consultant, Sherman’s focus is on building energy modeling, thermal modeling, testing, and field review for Passive House design and certification.
Sherman supports the RDH energy team by providing his expertise in Passive House design and certification. His primary responsibilities include facilitating design teams from schematic design to design development to certification by building energy models in PHPP and optimizing junction details. Sherman also prepares thermal bridging models for building enclosure assemblies to meet Passive House standards using two- and three-dimensional heat transfer simulation software. In the field, Sherman conducts site reviews to ensure Passive House compliance, including thermal bypass review, airtightness testing, and ventilation system commissioning.

Neil is a Building Science Specialist who works tirelessly to ensure that project requirements and client expectations are achieved. He works on a wide range of New Buildings and Existing Buildings projects, and he is committed to exploring and integrating Passive House and high-performance buildings on the West Coast of the United States.
Before joining RDH in 2005, Neil worked with another building enclosure consulting firm in Ontario, where he focused on roofing condition assessments and construction as well as fire protection field inspections.

fweber@rdh.comFelix advances complex façade and glass design at RDH out of our Oakland office. He is a highly creative engineer and experienced team leader with over 15 years of experience in façade consulting and structural engineering.
Trained as both a structural engineer and an architect, Felix has a passion for solving complex challenges, engaging with innovative technologies, and conducting research and development. He is comfortable working on all stages of a project, from conceptual design to detailed design and engineering through to realization. He has also worked on the development and testing of new products for the building industry and is an experienced lecturer.
Felix enjoys designing structures and façades influenced by individual materials or products. He has worked with many cladding types and specializes in structural façades, structural glass, complex geometry structures, and uncommon building materials such as ETFE and fiber-reinforced polymers.
Prior to joining RDH in 2021, Felix led the façade group at Arup and worked on a broad variety of projects in the San Francisco Bay area and London. He served as team leader on many award-winning projects with renowned architects and contributed to more than 250 international projects.

Kurt is a Building Science Engineer with a background in civil engineering. His primary focus is on providing building science consulting and construction field review for both new buildings and for repair and rehabilitation of existing buildings. He also provides consulting services for modular housing projects. In addition, Kurt applies his expertise as a Certified Passive House Consultant (CPHC) to assess how the enclosure impacts a building’s overall energy performance.

Much of Michael’s work at RDH revolves around guiding and shaping the development of high-performance building enclosures. He contributes to New Buildings projects as well as managing innovative Passive House projects such as the Doig River Cultural Center and the Gastown Childcare Centres in British Columbia.
Michael works alongside architects and developers during the early-stage design phase and schematic design while also overseeing the later stages of field review and testing. As a Certified Passive House Designer, he brings the ability to provide energy-saving solutions and strategies to any project.
Michael shares his experience as a part-time instructor at the BC Institute of Technology and teaches building science and construction technology classes.
Mark Will | BA Econ

Mark is an experienced construction manager who has overseen a large variety of building enclosure rehabilitation and assembly replacements. Beginning in 1998, Mark has fulfilled many roles at RDH, starting with field review and contract administration and moving onto project management, construction management, and asset management.
Mark has advanced within the company to the position of Principal and Vancouver Regional Manager. In addition to overseeing the administration and operations of the Vancouver office, he is also currently responsible for the training and development of approximately 50 staff in the Existing Buildings group.
Mark’s current role as a consultant includes managing projects associated with warranty claims. He is also responsible for the reconciliation of construction warranty defects and deficiency management with building owners for new and rehabilitated buildings.
Mark holds a bachelor of economics from the University of British Columbia and currently serves as a Business Member on the Condominium Home Owners Association of BC’s Board of Directors.

Sonny is a Building Science Engineer with a specialization in façade engineering. His expertise includes a wide variety of fenestration and façade systems, including window wall, curtainwall, and a wide range of cladding arrangements. Sonny particularly enjoys working with and developing façade designs to optimize the cost and performance to meet the project needs. This product development work includes assisting both domestic and offshore manufacturers and suppliers.
Sonny’s typical responsibilities include enclosure design and specification review, submittal review, quality assurance review at manufacturing facilities, and performance mock-up install and testing review. Sonny reviews all building enclosure-related assemblies on sites, such as below-grade walls, above-grade walls, window walls, curtain walls, and roofing assemblies and leads filed testing.
In addition to new construction projects, Sonny has a wide range of experience working on existing buildings. His involvement includes documenting original building enclosure conditions, determining water leakage paths, typically including field water testing, and collecting evidence for expert opinion reports.

David is a Senior Building Science Specialist who provides numerous services across our New Construction and Existing Buildings practice areas.
When contributing to building enclosure engineering projects, he is often involved from the conceptual design phase through project wrap-up. His eye for detail makes him adept at identifying performance issues and opportunities for increased durability.
David also works on historic conservation and restoration on the West Coast; for example, he recently completed the rehabilitation of Kaiser Permanente Town Hall in Portland.
David joined the Vancouver office in 1999 and was part of the team that brought RDH to Portland in 2004.
